The time of year is here when you are almost decided on a college, finding roommates, and the best part – planning your dorm room.
I want to share my sister’s dorm room from freshman year at Penn State (WE ARE!!) for some inspo!
I absolutely LOVEEE the way she decorated her dorm room. It was so much better than mine ever was… but we will put the sibling rivalry to the side to share just what you need to recreate this cute dorm!
Dorm Room Inspo

Map Tapestry / Mattress Pad (so comfy!!) / Bed Risers / Fuzzy Pink Throw Blanket
My sister’s freshman dorm room decor was the absolute cutest! She and her roommate decided on a pink, grey, and white theme. The soft colors and fuzzy textures they added with the huge gray fuzzy rug they got, throw blankets, and cozy comforters transformed the room.
My sister used a lot of decor that she already had which saved a ton of money. (Dorm room decor is so expensive!!) Brining pieces of home to her dorm made it feel cozier and didn’t make it look like the dorm room aisle at Target!
Tapestry’s are a must for dorm rooms. They are an inexpensive way to cover a ton of wall space. Since dorms usually have bricks for walls, tapestry’s are a great way to soften a large area.
My sister was gifted a tempurpedic mattress topper which was so comfortable. If there is one area you should splurge on it’s on a mattress topper. Dorm “beds” are so uncomfortable and you want to make sure you are getting a good night sleep.

The prints on the wall are from Etsy. You can find the cutest prints on Etsy and print them out and frame them yourself at home. There are so many college prints available which are a great touch for dorm rooms.

Desk Fan / Desk Lamp with charger / Bulletin Boards / Storage / Pen Holder
My favorite part about her desk area are the bulletin hexagons above her desk that she used for photos. It is such a unique way to display pics!
Her desk fan, sleek lamp, organizational items, and mini mirror are all from Amazon. Amazon is the best place (obvi) to get the necessities like this. The best thing to do is fill up your Amazon cart with the necessities and then get it shipped to your dorm to save room in the car for moving things like your clothes and other stuff.
Unfortunately, her jean jacket is one of a kind, created by the best sister in the world (aka me!).
Bonus Moving Tips
I couldn’t end this post without sharing some of the genius moving tips we used while moving her into her dorm room.
She used these great organizational jewelry holders and put all of her jewelry in them and wrapped them with shrink wrap. This was perfect because it kept everything untangled, it was organized ahead of time, and she didn’t lose any valuable jewelry in the moving process.
This jewelry holder is similar to hers and is super cute with the acrylic outside and grey cubbies.
She wrapped her clothes with the hangers on with trash bags. This saved time and room in the car.
