This post is about New Year’s Resolution ideas.
With 2018 coming to a close it’s about that time to make your New Year’s Resolutions. Setting resolutions for the new year is an amazing feeling.
I love to write down goals that I have and new habits I want to start implementing. It’s a great way to end the year and start the new one on a positive note!
What will the New Year hold for you? Make sure it’s a great year by setting New Year’s Resolutions.

New Year’s Resolution Ideas:
1. Learn something new every day
Make the resolution to learn something new every day. Start by reading an article about something you find interesting. You never know, maybe you’ll find new things and ideas you really love.
2. Exercise more
It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you choose, just move more. Make a point to hike more, or join a sports team, or hit 10,000 steps a day. Moving your body more will do great things for your mind and body.
3. Be kinder to yourself
I love the quote, “People come and go in your life, but the person in the mirror will be there forever; so be good to yourself”. Set the resolution to respect yourself and treat yourself well.
4. Start journaling
Journaling is beneficial in so many ways. You can use it to organize your thoughts, feelings, tasks that have to get done, track your habits, etc. You can find the best journal to start out with and design to your liking here.
5. Read more
Reading is something that I love, but find difficult to make time for so this is one of my resolutions. Make a list of books you want to read this upcoming year and cross them off as you go! If you need some book recommendations, here are 3 Self-Help Books you should add to your list.
6. Enjoy the little things
With how fast paced life can be sometimes we don’t take the time to look at all the beautiful things around us. Appreciate the simple things in life like the warm sun on your skin in the summer, stargazing, the smell of coffee in the morning, how cute puppies and kittens are.
7. Create a new tradition
Traditions are so much fun, why not start a new one this year! Come up with something new this year to do with your friends and family. It can be anything from a summer camping trip to going to an ice cream shop on the first day of summer.
A tradition that I started with my best friend back in middle school is we have a sleepover on the night before her birthday and then spend the day together! Now as juniors in college (where does the time go?!) we still do this and it’s so much fun! Full disclosure: we missed summer 2017 because I left for vacation 2 days before, but we just had a sleepover when I got back!
8. Become more environmentally friendly
This can seem intimidating, but start with taking a reusable bag when you go food shopping. Or unplug appliances when you aren’t using them (you’d be surprised how much that helps the environment and your electric bill). Just taking simple steps can make a big difference.
9. Be more grateful
Gratitude can completely change the way you view your life. Every day wake up and think about things or people you are grateful for. Whenever you are feeling down remind yourself of these things and you will feel so much better.
This was one of my resolutions for this year and it has made such a difference. I make a point to think about what I’m grateful for when I wake up and when I go sleep. I can’t even explain the difference this has made in my sleep, stress levels, and overall happiness. Just try it out for yourself.
10. Start listening to podcasts
There are so many great podcasts out there for all types of people. You’ll learn so much from listening to podcasts. Whether you’re into sports, finance, blogging, meditation, there is a podcast for you!
11. Spend more time outside
Spending time in nature increases happiness, stimulates creativity, and even boosts your immune system. We’re not meant to be cooped up inside all day long. Set a resolution to spend at least 15 minutes outside every day. Try to increase that time more and more as the year goes on.
12. Do yoga
Yoga does amazing things for your health. It betters your bone health, increases blood flow, improves flexibility, boosts immunity, builds muscle strength, and so much more.
Not only does it help your physical health, but it improves your mental health as well.
13. Have a positive outlook
Creating a positive mindset can change your life. Not only does it make you more resilient, it can make you live longer! Resolve to push the negative thoughts away to minimize anxiety and depression.
14. Strengthen your relationships
Whether it be your relationship with your significant other, parents, siblings, friends – strengthen them. Making a resolution that will improve your life as well as the people around you is very important. Let your friends and family know this is something that you want to work on with them.
15. Volunteer more
Do good for others this upcoming year. Even if you feel like you have no time to spare, make some for people in need. Reach out to the community around you to find out what you can do to help. Not only will this benefit the community, it will make you happier, give you a sense of purpose, and teach you new things.
16. Eat more veggies
The nutrients in vegetables are vital for your health. Vegetables are a source of many nutrients including potassium, vitamin a, vitamin c, and so much more. Eating vegetables regularly can reduce risk for stroke, cancer, heart diseases and type-2 diabetes. I mean do I have to say more?
17. Take lots of pictures
Make a resolution to capture the great times in your life. Pictures are so much fun to look back on at the end of the year and for years to come. I’m always taking pictures and videos. I grew up in a family that always had a camera out so it’s the norm for me (and I’m so happy I have all my memories captured).
I LOVE this polaroid camera. It’s so much fun to use with your friends. Polaroids are a fun touch to add to your room or office.
18. Declutter your space
Make a resolution to keep your space organized. Minimizing the clutter will give you a clear headspace. In a study that was done, researchers found that women who were in a cluttered space tended to eat more cookies. You can’t believe everything you read online, but my apartment is a mess right now and I’m eating cookies as I write this. Coincidence? I think not.
19. Start a blog
Starting a blog in the new year is a great hobby to pick up. You can make your blog into anything you want! It could be a personal blog that you share with your family or you could make it into a business.
If you are interested in starting a blog I highly recommend using SiteGround to host your site. Their startup plan is only $3.95 a month and is perfect for beginners. You can sign up here.
