I’m moving to a new place in a few months and one of the things I’m most excited for is the balcony. I’m leaving my tiny 400 sq. ft apartment in my old college town for a new more spacious place near my current graduate school and I couldn’t be more excited!
I can’t wait to sit out on my balcony with a book, coffee (or wine ;)), a cozy blanket, enjoying the ambiance of string lights. I seriously am SO freakin’ excited!
I’ve been endlessly scrolling Pinterest for aesthetic and creative balcony ideas. There are so many different ways to decorate a balcony. I want to share with you some ideas I’ve found and how you can achieve these aesthetic balcony looks yourself (and affordably too of course!).
When you are trying to design your balcony, first think of what kind of vibe or style you want to have. Are you a more chic or boho type of person?
1. Start by choosing what seating you want
This is the main pieces that will be on your balcony so I would decide this first. Depending on how big of a balcony you have you could have a couch, or a bistro table with a couple chairs, or maybe even a hammock.
I came across this picture and I’m totally in love with this idea. I found this really affordable hammock on Amazon that looks almost identical to this. Click here to check out the hammock.

If you have a smaller balcony a small table set is the best option. You don’t want it to feel too cramped by having too large of a seating area. Make the most of your space with a small table and chairs so there is more room to decorate!
If you need extra space, getting a loveseat with storage is a great option. This one on Amazon is a great price and it’s sooo cute. This might be on my wishlist…
Seating is probably one of the most expensive things you’ll have to get for your balcony so don’t forget to check out Facebook marketplace to find deals on furniture. Amazon has some really great prices as well like this 3 piece patio set and this hammock swinging chair.
2. Choose flooring
There are a few different options of things you can use for the flooring of your balcony.
I’m sure you’ve seen the really trendy wood slabs that go right on top of your balcony. They are so easy to use and surprisingly not that expensive. You could put down turf, which is a good option if you have pets. I’m sure they’d really enjoy that. Or simply go with a rug that fits your style.

These are the deck tiles that look like wood. They interlock with one another and make it look like wood flooring. They are surprisingly pretty inexpensive and I think they take apartment balconies to a whole new level. There are a lot of different wood tones on Amazon too!
I’m personally going with a rug since it will make it cozy and welcoming. I found some really cute and affordable ones on Amazon. It’s going to be so hard to choose which one! I’m deciding between these two.
I love this circular boho rug for layering. It would look amazing layered with one of the white and black geometric rugs.
3. Pick out decor
The most fun part is choosing the decor you want. I’m going to be decorating with lots of plants, candles, and cute boho throw pillows.

Amazon has a lot of great affordable decor. I love scrolling through all the outdoor decor they have. These are some of the pieces I have in my cart already đŸ˜‰
If you are really wanting to be even more budget friendly with your decor go to your local thrift store to see what they have. I always find the cutest decor pieces at my thrift store. It makes it even more fun because you never know what you’ll find.
You also don’t know what you’ll find at your parents house either. I know I’ll be shopping at my moms house for decor as well đŸ˜‰
4. Pick out lighting
Last but certainly not least, pick out what lighting you’d like on your balcony. This is my favorite part for sure! If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with string lights.

I love how they put icicle string lights on the ceiling. This is a creative way to have a lot of light on your balcony and make it look really cute and cozy.
And there you have it! Follow these steps to create the balcony of your dreams! I seriously can’t wait to have a balcony and make it really cozy. I already know I’m going to be spending all of my time there.
Make sure to check back in August to see how my balcony turns out! I can’t wait to share it with you!
