In today’s post I’m going to be showing you around my sister’s freshman dorm room at Penn State. I’ll sharing some tips for you and hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your dorm room.
My sister started college at Penn State University last summer. She was so excited to start her journey in college and having a super cute dorm room was something she was looking forward to for a while. She coordinated everything with her roommate. They decided to have a light pink and white theme to make the dark dorm room come to life.
We moved her in on a super hot day in August – which was pretty miserable considering the dorms don’t have air conditioning! Pro tip: first thing you should do when you move in is plug your fan in!!

Other than the heat, it was a great day and her dorm room turned out so amazing!

The pink and white theme completely transformed the dorm room. It made it look super bright and airy instead of dreary. I absolutely love the tapestry she picked out on Amazon. And it’s under $15!! Tapestry’s are the perfect way to cover up a big wall in your dorm room to soften it a bit.
We added string lights around it for a cute touch. String lights are another easy and inexpensive way to decorate your dorm room.
On the wall behind her bed she purchased some prints on Etsy and printed them out at Staples. This was another inexpensive way to cover up wall space. I definitely recommend you check out Etsy prints because they are so many options.

For her night stand we found this great piece at Home Goods. It’s actually a bathroom shelf, but it was the perfect height for a dorm room bed. We added some cute pictures and storage bins to make it look clean and organized.
One of the best things she got are the brown drawers underneath the bed. We got these at Target and they are the perfect height to fit under the bed. Since dorms usually only provide you with two or four drawers we knew she needed more. Under her bed looked so organized because of these bins.

I love the way her desk turned out! We completely transformed it from a boring dorm room desk to this! Metal desk organizers are a must for dorm rooms. Her desk light is from Amazon. This was one of the best purchases for her dorm room. It’s a touch to control light with a charging port.

Overall her dorm room turned out great. Hopefully this inspires you to create your dream dorm room. She had a great freshman year and I can’t wait to help her move into her first apartment later this summer!
